Operating on the foreshore at Lepe Country Park on the shores of the Solent, Solent Rescue have offered independent lifeboat services for many years with a modern boat house and somewhat less modern look out watching out from the cliff top towards Cowes in the East and Hurst Castle in the West.
Having always previously operated with beach launch small rigid inflatable boats in 2017 Solent Rescue One was commissioned following substantial sponsorship.
The hull, deck and wheelhouse were manufactured by Gemini Ribs in South Africa and the fit out by Gemini UK in Lymington with over winter (17/18) completion by the Solent Rescue crew.
Solent Rescue One first went into service during April 2018 and was only in service for weekends, bank holidays and during sailing events.
At almost 9 metres long, Solent Rescue One is quite a beast and capable of in excess of 50 knots making her one of the fastest SAR boats in the UK.
But the reality is that she is far more boat than Solent Rescue Independent Lifeboat Organisation require to swiftly and safely service their stretch of the Solent and so she is being sold in favour of a considerably smaller open rib that can be easily beach launched and operated from the boat house.
Any surplus in funds following the sale of Solent Rescue One is planned to be used to provide a very badly needed new lookout on the cliff top at Lepe.
